Nell’approfondimento degli elementi gestuali ed eucologici della liturgia, il saluto liturgico è solito passare in secondo piano. Ciò nonostante, la sua presenza è testimone della perenne azione dello Spirito Santo nella Chiesa. Nel corso della storia e nei diversi riti, i saluti hanno cambiato di posizione e numero. Ciò ha motivato liturgisti di ogni epoca a voler meglio comprendere il senso del saluto liturgico nel suo locus celebrationis. Con questa approssimazione, i saluti in generale si comprendono in vari sensi: espressione di fraternità, riconoscimento del potere sacerdotale e la dimensione epicletica.

Hands that stretch and join: a theology of the liturgical greeting

When the gestural and euchological elements of liturgy are subject of a deeper study, the liturgical greeting is usually put in the shade. In spite of this, its pre-sence is a witness of the perennial action of the Holy Spirit within the Church. During the history and among the different rites, greetings have changed their position and number. This has given to the liturgists of every time a good reason for understanding the sense of the liturgical greeting in its locus celebrationis. Roughly we can say that generally greetings are understood in various senses, as an expression of brotherliness, as an acknowledgment of the priestly power and as an epiclesis dimension.
